A Message from Kelley Lovati, Ph.D., President and CEO, Macomb County Chamber
As we turn the page on another impactful quarter, I want to reflect on the powerful conversations and connections that took place during the recent 2025 Mackinac Policy Conference. This annual gathering continues to be a vital space where leaders come together to shape Michigan’s future, and this year was no exception.
Macomb County had a strong presence at the conference, and I was proud to see how closely the themes discussed align with our priorities at the Chamber. From workforce development and education to infrastructure, regional collaboration, and national defense — these are not just talking points for us, they are action items we’re advancing every day.
One of the week’s highlights was our Macomb County Reception at the Yankee Rebel Tavern, which brought together more than 600 attendees, our largest crowd to date. The energy was incredible, and we were honored to welcome key leaders, including County Executive Mark Hackel, U.S. Senator Gary Peters, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Senator Mallory McMorrow, among others.
Throughout the week, I was pleased to hear a consistent focus on building a 21st-century workforce. This priority aligns with the work the Chamber is doing in collaboration with our education and business partners to prepare our talent for the future. Infrastructure and mobility were also at the forefront, which are critical to supporting our region in advanced manufacturing and defense. Additionally, conversations about regional collaboration reminded us that Macomb thrives when southeast Michigan works together with a shared vision for success.
Of particular importance was the focus on national defense and economic security. With assets such as Selfridge Air National Guard Base and the Detroit Arsenal, along with a strong network of defense contractors, Macomb County plays a pivotal role in the nation’s security. The Chamber has advocated for Selfridge and worked to attract new defense investment, and it was gratifying to see those efforts recognized at the state level.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the reception and throughout the conference. Your partnership and engagement continue to fuel our momentum.
Here’s to a strong summer ahead and continued progress across Macomb County.
Warm regards,
Kelley Lovati, Ph.D.
