Weathering the Storm: Preparing Businesses for the Unexpected
Business leaders throughout Macomb County attended “Weathering the Storm: Emergency Preparedness for Business Risks” at the Lorenzo Cultural Center this fall. The event, organized by The Macomb County Chamber and Macomb County, was designed to help business leaders improve their operations during periods of uncertainty and disruption.
Former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, now CEO and Chairman of SensCy Cybersecurity, delivered the keynote address, discussing leadership in tough times and why staying prepared matters. Drawing from his experience leading the state of Michigan and his current work helping small and mid-sized businesses strengthen their cybersecurity defenses, he emphasized that true resilience comes down to smart planning and working together. He also encouraged business owners to view risk management as an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-time task.
Following the keynote, a group of local experts took the stage to share insights on a variety of emergency preparedness topics, including natural disaster readiness, insurance coverage, workforce continuity, legal considerations, financial resilience and cyber protection. Panelists included:
- Brandon Lewis, Director of Emergency Management and Communications, Macomb County
- Steven McCarty, CEO and Chairman, UHY
- Brian Pilarski, Partner and Client Executive – Commercial Risk and Insurance, Kapnick Insurance
- Frank Sadeghi, President, SensCy Cybersecurity
- Craig Sherman, President and Chief Legal Officer, collabPEO
Attendees left the program with a deeper understanding of how cross-sector collaboration, risk assessment and proactive planning can safeguard employees, customers and operations.
The Macomb County Chamber extends sincere thanks to the event’s sponsors: collabPEO, Nickel and Saph, Inc. Insurance Agency, UHY and the United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL).
