County Executive Mark Hackel asked that I share this invitation with you in hopes that you or someone from your organization would join us in our Bicentennial Torch Relay. See below:

 

Greetings!

2018 has been a special year in Macomb County. So far, we have celebrated our bicentennial through a series of events, activities and storytelling. With the support of many partners and sponsors, we are working to create a broader understanding of our heritage and culture.
One of our signature events will be a 200-mile torch relay that traverses all 27 communities. It will begin at 5:38 a.m. on June 21 and end at 9:45 p.m. on June 22, kicking off the Mt. Clemens Fireworks.
As an active community leader, we would like to extend an invitation for you to select up to 10 torchbearers to participate in the relay. Torchbearers will have the opportunity to run a one-mile leg where they will be handed a lighted torch. There will be a brief opportunity for photos and a quick comment, but the torch will have to keep moving. The torchbearer will carry the torch to the next hand-off location, which will be approximately one-mile away (with the exception of a few communities).
Registrations are limited! Please have your selected torchbearer register using the link and promo code at the bottom of this email no later than Sunday, May 27th. Upon receipt, we will forward additional information to you. Please keep in mind that this is a timed relay. The bearer should be able to run a mile in approximately 11 minutes while holding a lighted torch weighing two to three pounds.
We encourage you to share this exchange on Macomb County’s 200th Celebration and Make Macomb Your Home social media channels.
Please also save the evening of June 22 for a special event in downtown Mount Clemens to celebrate the end of the torch relay. A formal invitation will follow.
