The Macomb County Chamber of Commerce and its hundreds of members throughout the county today threw their support behind the Good Jobs for Michigan coalition and legislation designed to grow more good-paying jobs statewide and not be left on the sidelines behind other states like Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and South Carolina.
“We can’t avoid action any longer. Michigan and communities like ours need this tool to help attract and grow more and better jobs if we are going to be competitive,” said Grace Shore, CEO of the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce. “This legislation is sound, smart public policy that’s essential for our workers and families and will bolster our neighborhoods, schools and local and state economy. We thank our Macomb Sens. Tory Rocca and Steven Bieda for their support in the Senate and urge our area Representative and the Michigan House to pass this critical jobs package.”
Shore explained that the Macomb Chamber’s mission is to help ensure a supportive climate for businesses in Macomb County and to be a catalyst for economic development, and that “the Good Jobs for Michigan package can and will be an essential boost to both of those goals and ensuring a strong quality of life for all throughout our county and region.”
The Good Jobs for Michigan legislation is comprised of Senate Bills 242, 243 and 244. The bills would allow simple, transparent and predictable incentives to fill critical gaps in Michigan’s business attraction toolkit, enabling the state to compete and secure projects of 250 and 500+ jobs. Numerous safeguards are built into the legislation to ensure that no incentives are paid until minimum jobs and wage thresholds are met and verified, and that projects demonstrate a positive fiscal impact to the state.
