Drew Kuhlman NuMa Coffee Co.

As the owner and roast master of Numa Coffee Co. in Clinton Township, Drew Kuhlman sees coffee as a way to build relationships, create community and spread a little bit of joy into people’s lives.

Drew and his wife, Karina, purchased Numa Coffee about a year and a half ago, taking over a business that already had a loyal following in Macomb County. Since then, they have focused on expanding the company’s reach while staying true to its roots of quality, authenticity and personal connection.

“We’re genuinely interested in building relationships with our customers and allowing the product to speak for itself,” said Drew.

The name Numa comes from a Greek word meaning “breath” or “spirit of life,” reflecting the company’s mission to bring a breath of fresh air into people’s daily routines. Looking ahead, Drew hopes to expand that mission through additional wellness-focused offerings and community partnerships.

Numa Coffee keeps things simple by sourcing high-quality products directly from farmers and using exclusively organic coffee.

“When a product is grown with quality, it makes a big difference,” said Drew.

Drew and Karina’s commitment to quality has opened new opportunities for growth. After meeting representatives from Corewell Health at a trade show, Numa Coffee was selected to supply coffee to the hospital’s cafeterias throughout southeast Michigan. Recently, the business also began offering its products through Randazzo Fresh Market.

Drew joined the Macomb County Chamber last year after attending Chamber events and recognizing the value of connecting with fellow business leaders. For Drew, Chamber membership has become an important way to grow both his business and professional network.

“We’ve made some great connections through the Chamber,” he said. “The partnerships and relationships we’ve built have opened doors and created opportunities we wouldn’t have found otherwise.”

When asked what advice he would offer aspiring entrepreneurs, Drew keeps it simple:

“Find a service that you’re good at and enjoy providing, then find a way to build customers around it.”

As Numa Coffee continues to grow, Drew remains focused on what first attracted him to the industry: creating meaningful connections, supporting the community and serving great coffee, one cup at a time.
